Another Brick in the Wall (Pink Floyd`s 50th Stage Anniversary)
The intention behind this semester project was to translate the extensive and fascinating compositions of PINK FLOYD into innovative spatial images. In order to add a new dimension to the experiences of music, and to break new ground in the field of spatial staging and spatial perception the students explored how to translate music into spatial choreography of sounds and images. At the Institute for Interior Design and Scenography in Basel, 25 students staged the music of PINK FLOYD as walk-in space, sound and light installations, creating unique spatial and sound experiences. © URB | HGK with Martina Ehleiter | Rolf Derrer | Ramon De Marco

The sketch is the shortest distance between the brain and the concept (paper). URB
As part of the creativ(e) structur(e) the workshop is based on the short novels of Italo Calvino´s Invisible Cities . After reading and analyzing the content the students are asked to transfer the narrative spontaneously into different formats: With the sketch-day, Students are invited to transform a paper-cladded room via painting into an immersive storytelling-tool. For the Space-Day, the students create a world out of cardboard that translates the narratives into three-dimensional experiences. The dramaturgy-day challenges the students to use the arc of tension to create physical „buildings of suspense“. ©URB | IN3 | HGK Basel | FH Dortmund | Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, Copenhagen

These exercises are meant to teach paying respect to the fellows` work and continue or enhance the (previous) painting according to one`s own interpretation of Calvino´s short story.

    Form follows content.
Scenography is a universal design discipline. It unites logic and magic. It is not the virtual in the real but the real in the virtual that interests the addressees. We let them become involved in another, narrative space that attracts their attention
and provokes diverse interpretation or associations. Due to the spatial narration, virtual extension of space is perceived as an enlargement of real space. Imagination takes the place of cognition.
